Today sees the launch of our advertising campaign enough is enough, highlighting our children's exposure to alcohol.

The campaign highlights the role of alcohol advertising in encouraging children and young people to drink at an early age and in greater quantities. We know that early consumption is linked with a host of problems including brain damage, truancy, experimenting with drugs and unsafe sex.

It is clear that current advertising restrictions are doing little to protect them from constant bombardment. In the North East, we have the highest rate of 11-15-year-old drinkers and the highest rate of under-18 hospital admissions due to alcohol.

Government needs to introduce meaningful regulations which include preventing:
• advertising targeted at young people
• advertising on television and in cinemas
• advertising on social networking sites
• sponsorship of cultural or sport events.
