Enough is Enough conferencePosted 09/11/11
The author of the year’s most talked about book on alcohol is one of several exciting speakers lined up for our conference to mark the start of Alcohol Awareness Week.
Dr Aric Sigman, of Alcohol Nation fame, will be joined by Dr Evelyn Gillan, Chief Executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland; Jon Stoddart, Chief Constable, Durham Constabulary and Mark Leyshon, of Alcohol Concern Wales, to discuss the ‘second hand harms’ of alcohol misuse.
Entitled ‘Enough is Enough – Calling Time on Second Hand Harm’, the conference will look at the damage which alcohol does to those around the drinker, from unborn children through to the wider community.
It will include:
- Dr Shonag McKenzie discussing Foetal Alcohol Syndrome
- Mark Leyshon on the increasing threat of alcohol advertising to young people through social networking sites
- Jon Stoddart, Chief Constable of Durham Police, setting out alcohol’s impact on policing
- Dr Evelyn Gillan on lessons we could learn from Scotland.
The full agenda can be accessed here.
Delegates will also get to witness the unveiling of Balance’s latest campaign to raise awareness of the impact of alcohol advertising on children and young people and encourage Government to introduce a range of restrictions to protect them.
‘Enough is Enough – Calling Time on Second Hand Harm’ will take place at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Friday, November 11. Lunch will be provided. Please click here for directions to the venue.
