Health
Alcohol is damaging the region’s health. Whether you work for the NHS, the police force, the fire brigade or jury services, it is highly likely that you’ve had firsthand experience with alcohol and heath in some capacity.
From vomiting, unconsciousness, violence and alcohol-induced injuries to long term and life-threatening illnesses including liver disease and cancer, alcohol is putting a strain on all our frontline services.
In the North East we have the highest rate of alcohol related hospital admissions in England and every eight minutes someone is admitted to one of the region’s hospitals as a result of alcohol.
And with one in two men and almost a third of women admitting to consuming at or above the Government’s recommended limits on a daily or almost daily basis in the North East, it is an issue that needs to be resolved.
