The services you deliver
Working on the frontline you’ll see at first hand the strain that alcohol is putting on our services. It is taking precious time away from dealing with other serious crime, injuries and illness. It is resource intensive. It is costly.
Whether you work for the police, as a paramedic, A&E staff, or in the fire brigade, alcohol will be having an impact on your job every day in some form or another. With additional call outs, abusive patients, noisy revellers or low level and more serious crime, it can be a daily battle against the bottle.
Did you know?
- The North East has the highest rate of alcohol related hospital admissions in England.
- In A&E Departments 70% of peak time attendances and 40% of weekend attendances are caused by alcohol.
- Across England there were 415,059 recorded crimes attributed to alcohol during 2009/10, equivalent to 8.1 crimes per 1,000 population.
- Alcohol misuse contributes to around 1.2 million incidents of violent crime in England. It is linked to 40% of domestic violence cases and 6% of all road casualties.
