Our economy is suffering because of alcohol misuse.

When budgets are tight we need to be careful with every penny. Dealing with the problems caused by alcohol is a drain on our public services and businesses in the region.

• In the North East of England alcohol misuse is costing up to £1.29 billion a year – that’s over £400 for every man, woman and child.

• The cost alone to the North East NHS is around £225 million each year.

• The annual cost of alcohol related crime in the North East is estimated to be somewhere in the region of £361-599 million.

• Alcohol misuse is costing the North East workplace and wider economy somewhere between £378 million and £467 million a year.
